We're closing the loop to ensure your Naturalmat mattress never ends up in landfill.
With a proliferation of low quality products, 100-day sleep guarantees and changing preferences, people are replacing their mattresses much more frequently than they used to, which is creating a mountain of waste – and an environmental disaster. Over 5 million mattresses end up in landfill every year in the UK alone, a terrifying statistic.
At Naturalmat, we do things differently. We take pride in every mattress we make and we want them to be enjoyed and cherished for many years. When the time comes, every one of our mattresses can be broken down into its individual component materials, each of which can be either composted, reused or recycled rather than being thrown away.
With our Mattress for Life initiative, you can rest assured that absolutely nothing will go to landfill when your Naturalmat reaches the end of its lifespan around 10 years from now.
Here are the three options available to you at that point:
We’ll collect your Naturalmat from your home and bring it back to our Devon workshop. There, our skilled team will take your mattress apart, replace any compressed or damaged fibres and put a brand new cover on it. It’ll be good as new for considerably less than the price of a new mattress.
If you would prefer not to refurbish your mattress, we will take it apart and the materials & fillings recovered will be washed and treated. You can either receive a credit for the value of these materials to put towards a new mattress, or receive a new product made from these repurposed materials, such as a dog bed or scatter cushions.
If your mattress is in an acceptable condition and you would like to donate it to charity, we will take it back and send it to our partners in Liverpool who have invented the world’s first mattress washing machine, called Mattilda! It will then be donated to one of our charity partners, as part of our efforts to alleviate sleep poverty.
Already a Naturalmat customer?
If you already own a Naturalmat and would like to send it back to us, please fill in the form below and we'll be in touch to discuss the options available. Currently we can only accept mattresses from our Bedroom collection, but we are working on a recycling solution for Nursery mattresses.
